Car Insurance Question  We received a check from our insurance adjuster that is somewhat larger than the estimate we received from the repair shop. Do we get to keep the difference?

The check you received from the insurance company is likely for the amount the claims adjuster estimated that the repairs would cost. If you are able to find a repair shop to do the repair the damages for less typically you can keep the difference.

It would be wise though to give your insurance agent or claims adjuster a call to make sure the check is for the correct amount according to their calculations, especially if the check is for a lot more than you were expecting. If the check was made out incorrectly and they realize their mistake later you could be asked to return part of the money.
