I currently live in Pennsylvania but am relocating in Orlando, FL soon. Should I set up an insurance plan ahead of time or wait till I arrive there? And if so how should I go about doing so?

It would be wise to go ahead and obtain your Florida auto insurance before you arrive if you know where you are going to live in Orlando. Florida requires you to register your motor vehicle within 10 days of moving to Florida as a resident. Part of the registration process calls for you to provide proof of Florida auto insurance.

If you have already acquired your FL auto insurance before moving to the state you will not have to rush around looking for insurance once you arrive. Also this will allow you to have your new policy in place before canceling your old car insurance coverage and thus not have a gap in insurance.

To obtain auto insurance you can ask your current insurance company in Pennsylvania to see if they are also licensed in Florida and if so to transfer your policy to Florida insurance. Or you can take this time to do auto insurance comparison shopping, which you can start doing here with us now.
