In 1990 the Clean Air Act required Florida, and other states, to comply with ozone standards. Florida responded in 1991 by instituting the Motor Vehicle Inspection Program (MVIP) in the six counties that were in violation. By 2000, four of the six counties were in compliance according to EPA air quality tests. The Florida governor and state lawmakers decided to end the emission tests in all six counties that had required them. It appears that since the abolishment of the MVIP, Florida does not require inspection stickers for vehicles being registered in the state.
