Car Insurance Question  My boyfriend had a clean driving record until a few months ago. He first got a speeding ticket and received 5 points on his license. He just got another the other day in NC going 73 in a 55. We moved to PA he still has a FL license will his license get suspended and will this affect him getting his PA license?

In Florida, you receive points on your license for out of state tickets or violations if it is a points accessible violation according to Florida statutes. The driver will receive the same number of points as if the violation conviction occurred in state.

Unlawful speed of 15 mph or less over the speed limit is 3 points in Florida, while for 16 mph or more over the speed limit is 4 points. It would thus appear that the North Carolina ticket would add another 4 points to your boyfriend's FL driving record so he would have a total of 9 points.

If you accrue 12 points in a 12 month period on a Florida license you might receive a 30 day suspension. So it would not appear that the two speeding tickets received would not get his license suspended.

Florida, North Carolina and Pennsylvania are all part of the Drivers License Compact and Non-Violators Compact so each state shares driving record information. Generally, as long as your boyfriend takes care of these speeding tickets properly, they should not affect him being able to exchange his FL license for a PA license.

To find out what procedures you need to follow to get a PA license contact the PA Driver and Vehicle Services. When you are ready to get Pennsylvania auto insurance you can start here for a rate quote.

car insurance commentsI read that Vermony and NC do not report ordinary traffic tickets to home states. Only more serious infractions such as would involve suspensions.
