Virginia and New York State are both members of the Drivers License Compact. This Compact allow the member states to exchange information regarding traffic violations that occurred out of state back to the home state, where the person is licensed. Being members of the DLC means that Virginia will inform NYS of your violation and license suspension in VA. While NY does not record minor out of state traffic offenses, major violations they may record on your driving record. A second part of the DLC says that when a state suspends the license of a driver who is from out of state, the state where the motorist received a license will also suspend their license. Thus, the NYS DMV will likely look at the reason why your license was suspended in VA, then decide if your NYS driving privileges will also be suspended.
