Car Insurance Question  I got a ticket for going 84 in a 65 zone in Maryland but I have a PA license. I was told the ticket would be 2 points in MD, but in PA 19 over the limit is 4 points. Will the points be added to my record in PA if I plead guilty and pay the fine? If they are, will it be 2 or 4?

You are correct that going 19 mph over the speed limit is a 2 point offense in Maryland and a 4 point offense in Pennsylvania. Both states are part of the Drivers License Compact (DLC) so Maryland's MVA will send this moving violation citation information to PennDOT.

According to the PA Driver and Vehicle Services Fact Sheet about the DLC, www.dot10.state.pa.us/pdotforms/fact_sheets/fs-dlc.pdf, even though the citation is reported to PennDOT, minor traffic offenses will not appear on your PA driving record and points will not be assessed when you are convicted of a point related offense in a DLC member state.

So it would appear from this information that the speeding ticket from MD will not be assessed points on your PA driving record, even if you plead guilty and pay the fine. If you are in the market for new car insurance you can start here with us to get an online auto insurance quote.
