A speeding ticket in Virginia is usually worth 3, 4 or 6 points depending upon how many mph over the speed limit you were cited for. A speeding violation in New Jersey is typically worth 2, 4 or 5 points. The NJ Motor Vehicles Commission point schedule though lists a moving violation occurring out of state as only 2 points. So instead of the points from Virginia or the normal points from New Jersey, your NJ license will only receive 2 points against it for your VA speeding violation if you plead guilty. Once you plead guilty and pay the fine, the conviction information will be reported from VA back to NJ due to the Drivers license Compact that both states are members of. Once the conviction is reported to the NJ MVC they will put this out of state violation on your NJ driving record and assess the points to the license. If these points or conviction on your driving record affect your insurance rates you can shop here for Edison, or other cities in NJ,
