Car Insurance Question  I am moving from Massachusetts to New York. Will my points get transferred to New York or will I start with a "clean" driving record? Do they work on the same point system?

Typically when you move between states and obtain a new license points from your old license do not transfer to your new license. To acquire a license though in a new state, such as New York, your out of state, Massachusetts, license cannot have outstanding citations that need to be taken care of or be suspended or revoked.

In New York State you must apply for a NYS driver license not more than 30 days after you become a NYS resident. You can find out more information on how to obtain your NYS license by contacting the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles.

The points systems of MA and NYS are not the same but indeed differ. To find out the differences in how violations are calculated in each state compare the information given by each state's driver's handbook.

For New York car insurance you can start comparison shopping here with us. Remember even though your new license might not have points on it, insurance companies can get driving record information from the state in which you moved away from.
