I have a Georgia driver's license and received a speeding ticket in Florida. Does FL send this information to GA and if so, does taking a driving class take away the points to my GA record? I am trying to decide if I should just pay the ticket or take a driving class and pay the reduced fine to avoid points on my GA record and not have my insurance raised.

Georgia is not part of the Drivers License Compact but many states do report convictions for moving violations back to the GA Department of Motor Vehicles anyway. It has been said that Georgia does assess points for out of state citations but you should check with the GA DMV to find out if a Florida speeding ticket will go on your driving record and/or be assigned points.

If the FL offense will go on your GA driving record, you can see if Florida will allow you to take traffic school to reduce or remove the ticket. If not then perhaps see if the Georgia Department of Drivers Services (DDS) will allow you to take a defense driving course.

Typically in Georgia you can only take this course once every 5 years and according to the DDS you cannot take it for both insurance reduction and point reduction. So if the ticket does go on your record contact your insurance company to see if it will affect your rates.
