As you likely are aware, New Hampshire state law does not require minimum auto insurance coverage. However, if you are at-fault in an accident without having insurance coverage you will be required to get car insurance. It is advised that if you own a vehicle you get at least some type of bodily injury coverage, in addition to $25,000 worth of property damage. It appears that you and your spouse have insurance but your son does not. Since you 19 year old's vehicle is not listed on your auto insurance policy it would be very doubtful that your insurance provider would cover him if he was in an accident in his car. You will need to check with your insurance company to find out for certain if he is covered in his car in anyway though. Typically in NH if there is an auto collision for which your son is found at fault, claims for bodily injury or property damage arising from that accident may be filed against him. If your son is living in your household and being listed as a dependant on your taxes you should also check to see if you as the parents could be held liable if he is in an accident. If your son decides he needs insurance for his vehicle, he can get an automobile insurance quote by clicking here.
