Hawaii is a member of the Drivers License Compact (DLC) which allows other states to report back to HI information concerning speeding tickets and other moving violations. Under the Motor and Other Vehicles section of the Hawaii statutes Title 17, Chapter 286C it tells about Hawaii's participation in the DLC. Here it states the licensing authority in the home state shall give such effect to the conduct as is provided by laws of the home state. Basically meaning the state in which you are licensed in can place the violation on your driving record and treat it as if it was an in-state offense. If the home licensing state does not have the same moving violation the HI DLC information notes that an offense of a substantially similar nature and the laws pertaining to that violation can be used as it may be necessary to ensure that full force and effect is given. Massachusetts is not a member of the DLC but will still likely send the ticket information back to Hawaii because MA has decided to share driving records and violation information with other states. From the wording of the Hawaii statutes it would appear the MA speeding ticket would be placed on your Hawaii driving record if MA sends them the citation data and if Hawaii has points for that offense they could be assessed as well. You should check with the Hawaii Department of Transportation to find out for certain.
