Car Insurance Question  I got an improper driving charge in Virginia but I am a DC resident. What will the DC DMV assign for this charge or who can I contact to find out?

An improper driving is a 3 point violation in Virginia. Virginia and the District of Columbia, where you reside, are both members of the Drivers License Compact so Virginia will report to DC this out of state citation that you received.

The District of Columbia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) states that DC licensed drivers will be assessed points for certain moving violations, no matter if the offense occurs in DC or out of state.

Improper driving is not listed on the DC Driver Points System list so it likely will fall under the "Commit any moving violation that does not contribute to an accident and is not listed" arena and thus will be assigned 2 or 3 points. You can contact the DC DMV to find out for certain.
