Car Insurance Question  I have insurance in Mississippi but my 18 year old daughter lives in Georgia with her Mother. I have just bought her a car for graduation and want to get her insurance. My insurance company doesn't offer it. How can I get insurance for her?

If the vehicle you purchased for your daughter is titled and registered in her name only than with most insurance companies she will be the only person who can obtain insurance on the vehicle.

Now if the car is in your name or your name and your daughter's name, then an insurance company in Georgia should be able to insure the car for you and/or your daughter. You will probably not find a company domiciled in Mississippi that will be able to afford coverage for a vehicle garaged in Georgia.

Regardless of whose name is on the title, since the car is going to reside and be garaged in Georgia it will need to be registered there. Auto insurers must be licensed with the Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner's Office (ICO) to be able to issue GA car insurance policies.

You might decide it is easiest to help your daughter find insurance in Georgia and set up the policy in her name. Once the policy is set up you could assist her with the payments.
