Car Insurance Question  My license and registration has been suspended for some time and I want to get them back. I live in New York and my license was suspended because of a long insurance lapse. What should I do to get both registration and license back?

The information given by the NY DMV states that if you do not have insurance on your vehicle and do not surrender your vehicle plates that your registration and driver license are suspended indefinitely.

You registration is suspended for the same number of days that you did not have insurance coverage but did hold onto the vehicle plates. If the time is more than 90 days, your driver license is also suspended for the same number of days. To reinstate your license, you must pay a termination fee of $25 when the suspension ends.

So if your suspension time period is up, you can contact the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles through their website. Or can look up the number to call and request information on how to reinstate your license at www.nysdmv.com/tollfree.htm. Either way you should be able to find out what exact steps you need to take in order to have your driver's license and car registration reinstated.

You will definitely need to have auto insurance your vehicle, so start comparison shopping by getting an affordable New York car insurance quote.
