In Alabama speeding in excess of the posted limits (85 mph or below) results in 2 points on your license. In Georgia speeding more than 19 mph but less than 24 mph over the speed limit is worth 3 points on your license. Georgia, the state in which you are licensed, is not part of the Driver's License Compact like most states are. So other states are not required to send the GA Department of Motor Vehicles information concerning out of state violations but many states have decided to still report citation convictions of GA licensed drivers back to the Georgia. Contact the GA DMV to find out if they will assign points for a speeding ticket from Alabama and/or put it on your driving record. If it is placed on your driving record than your insurance rates could be affected depending upon your insurance company's rating system. This being a first ticket may not change your rates but ask your insurance agent to find out for certain. The decision to fight or pay the ticket is a personal one. Most states do not have a statute saying that officers must lock in the speed or show the driver the radar reading. To find what the laws are regarding this in AL, try contacting the Alabama DMV or clerk of the court. Our article What To Do After Receiving A Traffic Ticket may be helpful to you at this time.
