I have a Florida driver's license and got a speeding ticket in Tennessee (Cook County) for 80 in a 65 on Highway 75. How many points will I receive on my FL license for this and how would this affect my insurance premiums? Does this have any other effect on my license?

Tennessee is not part of the Drivers License Compact but the TN Department of Safety may still report speeding tickets and other moving violation convictions back to the home state of out of state licensed driver.

If Florida's Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (HSMV) is notified of this citation in Tennessee, points may be assessed the same as if the ticket was received in Florida. So in Florida for speeding for 15 mph or less over the speed limit it is 3 points on your driver's license.

The offense will go on your Florida driving record as well. Once it is placed there it will be easier for your insurance company to see it and thus it could affect your premiums. If it will change your rates is dependant upon how your insurance company's rating system is set up.

You can contact your insurance company to find out more about their rating system or the Florida Department of Financial Services whom insurance carriers must file their rates with.
