In Maryland, speeding in excess of the posted speed limit by 10 miles per hour or more is 2 points. If you were driving though 30 mph or more in MD, than the point assigned to that offense is 5 points. Speeding more than the posted speed of 65 mph by 20 mph or more is a 5 point offense in Maryland. Since you have a New Jersey driver's license instead of a license from Maryland, you are lucky in that NJ only assigns 2 points for out of state offenses. Both New Jersey and Maryland are part of a Compact that allows MD to report to NJ this violation and then for NJ to place the offense on your driving record and assign points. After the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission lists this offense on your driving record, your insurance company will likely see it next time they pull your motor vehicle record (MVR). At that point it will be up to your insurance company and their rating system to determine if the ticket will affect your rates.
