Car Insurance Question  My daughter just got a new car for high school graduation and it is registered in her name but she only has a learners permit and does not live at home. How do we go about getting the car insured until she takes her drivers exam and passes?

It may be difficult for your daughter to find insurance on her own since most insurance providers will require her to obtain a regular driver's license within 30 to 45 days of the insurance policy's inception date. If she is going to be fully licensed within this time period, she should be able to find car insurance for her vehicle now with only the permit.

Some insurance companies may require your daughter to list someone on the policy who is 21 or older with a full driver's license to take out the policy to begin with if she only has the learner's permit to start. If she has no one in her household like this than it may again prove to be difficult to obtain insurance for her vehicle.

If she is unable to get insurance in her own name at this time with only the learner's permit, see if your insurance carrier will put her vehicle on your policy (along with your daughter) until she can get a policy in her own name.
