Car Insurance Question  Just for general info: is there a minimum coverage set by Florida law that one must carry regarding personal injury in regards to auto insurance? If so, what is it?

Florida law has set a minimum limit to the amount of personal injury protection (PIP) auto insurance a motorist must carry. The minimum is set at $10,000 of PIP and the state also requires $10,000 of property damage liability (PDL) if you own a motor vehicle in Florida.

This personal injury protection car insurance coverage protects you while in your own or someone else's vehicle. If you are in an accident occurring in Florida, PIP will cover you and members of your household who do not own their own vehicle, certain passengers who lack PIP, and certain licensed drivers who operate your car with your permission.

If you are in an accident outside the state of Florida, the PIP portion of your policy will cover only you and members of your household. This is for driving your vehicle within the rest of the United States and Canada.

The Florida no-fault, PIP, laws sunset as of October 1, 2007. However a bill to restore Personal Injury Protection passed the FL House, and Senate. Governor Crist signed the bill into law October 11, 2007. The bill to reinstate PIP allows the no-fault, PIP coverages, to be required once again as of January 1, 2008.The minimum about of PIP required will then once again be $10,000.PIP will still have 80% medical bill coverage or the 20% co-pay.
