In Kentucky, it is 6 points on your driver's license for speeding 16 -25 mph over the speed limit on any road or highway. Receiving 6 points will likely get you a notice from the Division of Drivers Licensing and you may be requested to appear for an interview. If you are required to attend an interview, the KY Transportation Cabinet representatives will determine if a State Traffic School program would benefit you as a driver. If you are asked to be at an interview and do not show up, your license will be suspended for 6 months. The points list at KY Transportation Cabinet Division (TCD) site does not mention points for a seat belt/safety belt citation. It would appear the penalty for this violation is a fine and court costs. You will need to check with the clerk of the court's office, or other entity listed on your tickets, to see if your parents need to appear with you at court. Likely they will since you are 17 and thus a minor. Keep in mind that according to the KY TCD, if a person under 18 accumulates 7 or more points against their permit or license they will be scheduled for a hearing conducted by the Transportation Cabinet. Your license could be suspended or you may be placed on probation. You might see if traffic school is an option for you, so that points for these traffic tickets would not accumulate on your driver's license.
