According to the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) there are certain steps to take in order to register a vehicle in MA that was previously registered out of state. The second step of this process is going to a licensed MA insurance agent to obtain an active insurance policy and have the agent complete, stamp and sign an Application for Registration and title. So it could be this registration form that your insurance company was referring to and saying must be filled out in order for you to put insurance on the vehicle. When you have followed all of the steps of the registration process, you will receive a registration certificate, new plates and a year of expiration decal for the rear plate. The title will be processed and mail in 6 to 8 weeks or if you have a loan on the vehicle, the title will be mailed to the lien holder. Remember to obtain a vehicle inspection sticker within 7 days of the registration date of your MA motor vehicle.
