Car Insurance Question  Can a 17 yr old in North Carolina get their license if they are getting their GED online?

According to the North Carolina Driver's Manual, driver license applicants less than 18 years of age must have a driving eligibility certificate, high school diploma or its equivalent to be eligible for a NC driving permit or license. The driving eligibility certificate is a document signed by an applicant’s school administrator to certify that the person is currently enrolled in school and progressing towards a diploma.

The NC Department of Motor Vehicles revokes the license of any person under the age of 18 when it receives notice from a proper school authority that the person is no longer eligible for the driving eligibility certificate. The revocation remains in effect under the person's 18th birthday unless a new driving eligibility certificate, high school diploma or GED certificate is obtained.

From this information it would appear that you cannot receive a license or driving privileges in North Carolina until the GED program you are working on is completed and you have obtained a certificate stating so that you can take into the DMV. For more information try checking with the NC Department of Motor Vehicles.
