Car Insurance Question  Is it true that every person with a valid Driver's License is automatically covered with some sort of car insurance?

To be covered by a car insurance, one must purchase an auto insurance policy through a licensed insurance provider or be added to an existing motor vehicle insurance policy. In some states you need to show proof of insurance to acquire a license, while in other states you need at least the minimum state required insurance to register your vehicle.

State laws and insurance companies’ guidelines can vary but we know of no situation where by just obtaining a valid driver's license you are automatically covered by car insurance.

If you live in a household that already has car insurance on vehicles, you might be covered under that policy once you have received a driver's license, but in most cases the policyholder would need to inform their insurance company and add you to the policy in order for you to be covered properly by the auto insurance policy.

If you have recently obtained a driver's license and are in need of car insurance, you can get auto insurance quotes online here.
