According to the North Carolina points list, driver license points are placed on your NC driving record if you are convicted of certain motor vehicle violations. They list speeding more than 55 mph as 3 points but not other speeding violations though it is noted that there are 2 points for all other moving violations.
It is likely that your speeding citation would fall under the "all other moving violations" category and be assessed 2 points, but you can check with the North Carolina NCDOT Division of Motor Vehicles to find out for certain. Even if points are not assigned to this type of violation, the offense of speeding will most likely be listed on your driving history.
You can also request a copy of your driving record from the NC DMV online by following a few simple steps. There is a fee of between $8 to $11 depending upon the type of driving record / MVR you want a copy of.
If the violation is placed on your driving record than your insurance company will be able to see it the next time they pull up your motor vehicle record (MVR). The NCDOT DMV states that insurance points and insurance rates are determined by individual insurance companies that do business within North Carolina.
To find out if your rates will be affected contact your insurance provider to find out about their rating system or contact the NC Department of Insurance with whom insurance companies must file their rates with.
