Car Insurance Question  I received a ticket in Kentucky for doing 86 mph in a 65 zone. Will they report this to my home state of Tennessee causing my insurance rates to go up?

Kentucky is currently part of the Drivers License Compact (DLC) while your home state of Tennessee dropped out of the Compact in 1997 but still reports tickets to other states and other states can still report moving violations of TN drivers back to the TN Department of Safety

A speeding violation of exceeding the posted limit by 26 mph in Tennessee would be worth 5 points according to the TN violation points list. Since the Kentucky speeding ticket will likely be reported to TN, the Department of Safety might apply points to your license as if the offense occurred in state. Find out by for certain contact them the DPS directly.

If the speeding ticket shows up your TN driving history, your insurance rates could be affected depending on your insurance company's rating system. You can contact your insurance carrier to find out about their rating system or contact your state's insurance regulator, with whom the insurance company must file their rates with.
