Car Insurance Question  When reviewing my MVR, how do I know what the specific violation is that is listed on my MVR? For instance there is a "type of action" of 18 but I don't know what this is for.

A Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) is basically a driving history kept by a state's department of motor vehicles or like agency. What the DMV places on a person's driving history can differ depending upon state laws.

A person's driving record typically contains a history of traffic violations and convictions, collisions (accidents), and departmental actions incurred by the driver over a period of time. Departmental actions may include arrests and convictions for driving related incidents such as a DUI.

The information for a motor vehicle record is provided by the state's Department of Motor Vehicles where you are licensed. Each state has its own system of listing violations and/or coding violations so to find out what specific violations on your MVR or driving history mean, contact the your Department of Motor Vehicles.

The type of action, is typically what occurred or the action taken by the court. If you tell us the state, we may be able to locate the 18 code for you.
