Yes, typically your normal health insurance policy will pay for injuries sustained in an auto accident. There are some health insurance policies though that do not cover these medical bills because there is an exclusion for injuries received in auto incidents. Check with your medical insurance policy and/or contact their company's representative to find out for certain if your health insurance would cover medical bills related to a car accident.
Each state is different, but generally this is the order of recovery for loss (if coverage is applicable and/or available):
- Workers Compensation
- Personal Injury Protection (PIP)
- Medical Payment Coverage
- Liability Coverage (other party)
- Uninsured and/or Underinsured Motorist (UM or UIM)
- Health Insurance or other applicable coverage
