In Illinois a speeding violation for 1 to 10 mph over the posted speed limit is a 5 point offense according to the IL offense table from the Illinois Administrative Code.
Moving violations such as speeding, disregarding a traffic control light, improper lane usage, etc. remain on an Illinois driver's record for four to five years from the date of conviction. If the ticket forms the basis for a suspension or revocation, the information will be carried on your driving record for a minimum of seven years from the date of reinstatement. Alcohol/drug offenses remain on a driver's record for a lifetime.
As for insurance points and rates, they are set by insurance companies and thus may differ according to an insurance companies rating system. If this is your first moving violation and you have a clean driving record besides this one citation, it is likely that your insurance rates may not be affected since you were less than 10 mph over the speed limit.
Since insurance companies rating systems do vary you should contact your insurance provider to find out how this ticket will affect your rates and if insurance points will be assessed for it or not. To find out more about Illinois insurance rules or rating systems you may want to contact consumer division of the Illinois Department of Insurance.
