Car Insurance Question  I'm a legal resident of Delaware and recently received a speeding ticket in NY. Will points be assessed against my DE license?

Delaware and New York State are both members of the Driver License Compact so the New York courts or DMV will inform Delaware of this out of state speeding ticket that you received once you are convicted of it. Usually it is considered a conviction once you have pled guilty and paid the required fine amount.

If Delaware follows the basic guidelines of the DLC than the DE Division of Motor Vehicles will place this out of state speeding violation on your driving record. The Motor Vehicles section (Title 21, part IV, Chapter 81) of the Delaware Code discusses the Drivers license compact. It does not mention points being assessed but I would suggest checking with the DE DMV to find out for certain since statutes can change. If points are assessed it will likely be the same as if the offense had occurred in state.

In Delaware 1 to 9 mph over the posted limit is 2 points, 10 to 14 mph over is 4 points, 15 to 19 mph over is 5 points and 20 or more mph over the speed limit is 5 points plus may result in additional actions including suspension.
