Car Insurance Question  I just got a speeding ticket in Maine and my license is in Washington State. Will it show up on my record?

The state in which you received your ticket, Maine, and your home state of Washington are both members of the Drivers License Compact (DLC). As part of this compact members report to back to other member states when one of their licensed drivers is ticketed for a moving violation.

Section 46.21.010 of the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) gives information on Washington's participation with the DLC. In Article III of this section it states:

The licensing authority of a party state shall report each conviction of a person from another party state occurring within its jurisdiction to the licensing authority of the home state of the licensee. Such report shall clearly identify the person convicted; describe the violation specifying the section of the statute, code or ordinance violated; identify the court in which action was taken; indicate whether a plea of guilty or not guilty was entered, or the conviction was a result of the forfeiture of bail, bond or other security; and shall include any special findings made in connection therewith.

Article IV goes on to say that the licensing authority in the home state, for the purposes of suspension, revocation or limitation of the license to operate a motor vehicle, shall give the same effect to the conduct reported, pursuant to Article III of this compact, as it would if such conduct had occurred in the home state. This information seems to say that the ME speeding ticket will be placed on your driving record, just as if the violation had taken place in Washington State.

A Washington driving record contains a history of violations and convictions, collisions, and departmental actions incurred by a driver over a period of time. A copy of the record is referred to as an Abstract of Driving Record (ADR). The WA DOL states that violations and convictions are kept on your ADR for 5 years from the conviction or adjudication date.

Check with the Washington DOL to find out for certain if this out of state speeding ticket will be placed on your driving record and if there are any other penalties you will incur in state for getting ticketed for speeding out of state.
