Car Insurance Question  I am a resident of Austin, Texas and I got a speeding ticket in Toronto, Canada. Will it affect my driving record and insurance in Texas.

According to the information we were able to gather, all provinces in Canada have a reciprocal agreement with Ontario regarding moving violations. Ontario (which is the providence that Toronto is in) also has a reciprocal agreement with 41 states, including Texas.

To find out if part of this reciprocal agreement is to report to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) the out of country ticket, you will need to contact the DPS directly. Their licensing customer service number is 512-424-2600.

The DPS should also be able to tell you if this ticket will be placed on your TX driving record. If it is placed on your driver's history then your insurance company could see it and depending upon their rating system it could affect your rates.

If your premiums do go up due to this ticket, you can shop around for insurance by getting comparison rates. Start here with us for an affordable Texas car insurance quote.
