In Georgia there are a few ways in which to get a copy of your own motor vehicle record or driving history. To obtain your teenage child's driving record in Georgia it appears that you will need their authorization. If your child will allow you to check their record you should be able to look at their driving record online, in person or via mail.
To obtain a non-certified copy of the child's MVR online you will need his or her consent as well as:
- Driver’s License Number
- Date of Birth
- Password (can be set up by request online with the GA Department of Driver Services)
A Georgia Driving History Report (MVR) can be purchased in person at any GA DDS customer service center location. Here proper identification will be required and the cost is $5.00 for a 3 year record and $7.00 for a 7 year record. If obtaining a motor vehicle record other than your own, the following is required:
- A notarized authorization form from the licensee naming the person authorized to receive record.
- The full name, date of birth and Georgia driver's license number of the licensee.
- The person receiving the report for another individual must also show proper identification.
If your teenager does not give you authorization to look at their driving record so you can see if they have any tickets or other traffic violations on their MVR, you may want to check with the Georgia DDS to find out if there is any way to check the MVR without the child's consent. As the parent to a minor there might be a way in which to do so.
