I recently received a ticket in Canada and was wondering whether or not it would affect my insurance in the USA. I would appreciate any feedback on this.

Your ticket in Canada might affect your insurance back in the United States of America. It will depend upon if the ticket is reported back to the state in which you are licensed and placed on your driving record.

There are quite a few states, including New York, Michigan and Maine, which have reciprocal agreements with various provinces and territories in Canada that allow both motor vehicle departments to exchange information regarding tickets.

If your particular state has a compact or agreement with the area of Canada in which you were cited for a traffic violation and places this information on your driving record then your insurance company can see if next time they pull your motor vehicle record (MVR). Then depending upon the insurance company's rating system this out of state / out of country ticket could affect your rates.

To find out for certain if your state has a reciprocal agreement with the part of Canada in which you were ticketed try contacting your local Department of Motor Vehicles.
