Maryland and Delaware are both members of the Drivers License Compact (DLC). This interstate agreement requires member states to report conviction of tickets received by a motorist back to the state where they received their driver's license.
The Maryland driver's manual currently states that once the MVA receives ticket information from another state they treat it as if the violation occurred in state. If the MD MVA does treat the DE speeding ticket as an in state offense than it would go on your driving record and could be assigned points.
In Maryland it is 5 points for speeding in excess of the posted speed limit by 30 mph or more. To find out for certain if points will be assessed for this out of state speeding ticket, check with the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration.
In Delaware you should be aware that their Division of Motor Vehicles finds speeding 25 mph or more over the speed limit to be a serious speeding offense. Their violation page notes that a driver will be suspended for one (1) month when convicted of driving 25 MPH over the posted speed limit. The length of suspension will increase by one month for each additional 5 MPH over the initial 25-MPH threshold.
It also notes that the driver may elect to attend the behavior modification/attitudinal-driving course in lieu of license suspension when driving 25-29 MPH over the posted limit. For speeding 30 MPH over the posted limit or more the suspension is mandatory. So when you call the clerk of the courts to arraign payment for the ticket you may want to see if you also will receive these other penalties or just the fine.
