My vehicle was stolen. I reported it to the police and insurance co. After 14 days the insurance settled a claim. I had to send the title and keys to the insurance company and I received my settlement. A few days later the vehicle was recovered and other than a busted steering column there is very little damage. Do I have to pay the settlement money back to the insurance company?

Since you have received a settlement for your vehicle and appear to have turned over possession of the vehicle to your insurance company via sending in the keys and title, and likely also signing paperwork signing over the car to the insurance company, then typically the recovered car would now be their property.

A settlement from the comprehensive coverage portion of your insurance policy was for the value of the vehicle and thus if you wanted to keep your vehicle you would have to return this money in exchange for the car. Whether this is doable will depend upon state laws and your insurance company's guidelines. If you do want the vehicle back you can discuss what options are available to you with your insurance company's claims department.
