I was given an aggressive driving ticket in Delaware and I have a DE license. I was expecting to pay a huge fine but I was asked to come to the court instead. Can someone explain what can happen in the court and if the insurance premiums will go up ?

In Delaware aggressive driving is considered a serious moving violation and worth 6 points on your DE driving record. The Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles notes that aggressive driving is defined in terms of existing Title 21 (Motor Vehicle portion of the DE Code) offenses such as failure to yield, unsafe lane change, disregard of a traffic control device, failure to stop at the command of a police officer, following too closely, passing on a shoulder, and speeding.

The DMV goes on to say that individuals convicted of 3 or more of these offenses as a result of continuous conduct are guilty of aggressive driving and are subject to increased penalties. Offenders are required to complete a behavioral modification/attitudinal-driving course within 90 days after the conviction for aggressive driving. Failure to attend the course may result in suspension of the individuals driving privilege.

The DMV driver services states that for further information regarding Aggressive Driving the DMV to call (302) 744-2509. You may want to call this phone number or the number on the back of your citation (likely the court you will have to attend) to find out what you can expect to happen in court and what penalties you may be facing.

Insurance companies rating systems differ so if you are convicted of this offense you will need to discuss how the aggressive driving charge will affect your premium rates. Since it is a serious offense, more so than just a speeding ticket, your rates are likely to be increased. If your rates go up too much, you may want to start shopping around for DE car insurance quotes, you can start here with us.
