Car Insurance Question  A friend of mine was involved in a car accident that was her fault. She hit in the back of a car, that hit another and then another car. So, that was three cars plus her car. She has 25/50/25 liability. Her insurance company pays maximum $25 thousand to each car, or $25K to all of them?

Your friend's liability limits of 25/50/25 stand for bodily injury of $25,000 for one person injured in an accident for a total of $50,000 for all people injured in the one incident. The final 25 which stands for $25,000 worth of property damage as the total limit for one accident or incident.

Since your friend was found at fault for the damage to 3 other vehicles, these other parties will have to split her coverage of $25,000 for the one accident. Each vehicle does not get up to the 25K but in total her insurance company will pay up to the $25,000 limits of liability for all damages sustained to others in the accident. So all of the claims by the other vehicle owners will only be paid up to the 25K limit.

If the combined damages of the 3 vehicles is over your friend's limits she may want to seek legal advice to see if state laws will allow those parties whose damages are not paid in full by her insurance to file a lawsuit against her personally and if so what steps she should take.
