I was involved in a minor collision and my insurance is lapsed. I live in Florida, and want to pay for the damages personally. I am being told however that the amount of damage is 3500.00, which I think is rather high. So, it'll have to be handled by their insurance company. Will the insurance company make payment schedules for payment, or will I have to sell off everything I own to pay for this accident?

Normally you can negotiate with the insurance company to pay off the damages in smaller monthly payments. You should get a document showing proof of your agreement and payments for your records.

The insurance company may report your case to the Florida Department Highway Safety and Motor Vehicle (HSMV) and the FL Bureau of Financial Responsibility since you did not have the minimum insurance required, and you may now be required to have an SR-22 form to renew your insurance.
