My husband died recently. Should our car insurance go down since there is only one driver or does it stay the same?

We are sorry for your loss. A change in your marital status may affect your insurance rates, but it is one out of many factors that will be considered in determining you insurance rates. It all depends on your insurance company and how much weight they put on the marital status.

Some insurance companies usually only offer a choice between single or married, so a recently widowed driver would be considered single. Some companies, let you specify whether you are single, married, widowed, single with child, domestic partner. A widowed driver is typically rated rated similar to "married."

Since each insurance company has its own rules on these situations, you should contact your insurance provider for information regarding your policy. If you get an insurance quote with us, you will need to specified your marital status on the drivers page.
