Most rental car companies will rent you a car as long as you meet the requirements of their "terms & conditions" and a rental car is available. Most rental companies offer many ways to insure your rental car, simplest is either by using your own insurance policy, or by purchasing rental insurance from the rental company.
Since you are already included in an insurance policy, you may be able to use your own insurance to insure your rental car. This all depends on the coverage you have and the rules of your insurance company regarding rental cars. Contact your insurance company to find out what kind of coverage you have and what you can do when renting a car. There is no standard answer with rental car coverage transferring. It is especially difficult because each state is different.
Many rental companies also offer some type of rental insurance if you don't have your own insurance coverage. Sometimes called "Loss Damage Waiver" this basically means the rental company will be held responsible incase of damage or theft. Contact your rental company to see what kind of rental insurance they offer.
These days many credit cards also offer rental insurance if you pay for the rental car using their credit card. Check with your credit card company to see if they offer this.
