Car Insurance Question  Does UMPD apply in PA? If so, is there a lower deductible versus your collision deductible that would be applied for a hit/run accident?

The UMPD also known as Uninsured Motorist Property Damage coverage usually covers your vehicle's damages from an accident caused by a driver that is uninsured.

UMPD is not an available coverage in Pennsylvania. These are the available coverage in PA:

Mandatory Pennsylvania Liability Coverage:

  • Bodily Injury
  • Property Damage
  • First Party Benefits - Medical
    • Right to Recover Damages (Tort Options)
    • Limited Right to Recover Damages (Limited Tort)
    • Full Right to Recover Damages (Full Tort)

Optional Pennsylvania Liability Coverage

  • First Party - Combination Package Benefit (CPB)
  • First Party - Extraordinary Medical
  • First Party - Income Loss
  • First Party - Accidental Death
  • First Party - Funeral
  • Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury
  • Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury - Car Stacking

Optional Pennsylvania Vehicle Coverages

  • Comprehensive
  • Collision
  • Towing/Labor (Roadside Service)
  • Rental Car Limits(Loss of Use)
  • Customized Equipment
  • Loan/Lease Gap Coverage

In states where UMPD is available, it is never intended to replace physical damage, but rather used supplement it. For example, in CA it has a limit of $3500. While in WA it may have a deductible of $100, but a $300 deductible for hit and run claims.

As you can see it is different in every state. Please get a Pennsylvania car insurance quote with CarInsurance.com to see if we can save you money in Pennsylvania.
