Georgia points for speeding are as follows:
- 15 mph but less than 19 mph is 2 points
- 19 mph but less than 24 mph is 3 points
- 24 mph but less than 34 mph is 4 points
- 34 mph or more is 6 points
Normally after you plead guilty and pay the fine for your moving violation, in this case you being convicted of your speeding ticket, the court will inform the Department of Motor Vehicles about your conviction. The GA DMV will then assign the correct amount of points to your Georgia driving record as well place a conviction notation for this moving violation on it. The courts nor the DMV send this information onto your insurance carrier.
Your insurance company finds out about your moving violation conviction when they next run your motor vehicle record (MVR). This is typically done when you start up a policy and at renewal time. At that time they should see the violation and depending upon their rating system it could affect your rates.
