Car Insurance Question  What Department in Tennessee is responsible for licensing and registration?

In Tennessee the Department of Safety is responsible for the licensing of drivers. The Title and Registration Division, part of the Department of Revenue, is responsible for the registration of motor vehicles.

Effective July 1, 2006, all functions relating to the Division of Title and Registration began to be administered by the Commissioner of Revenue. Previously the title and registration of motor vehicles was under the control of the Department of Safety. This change was made to help streamline the responsibilities of the Department of Safety and make the TN government run more efficiently.
