Car Insurance Question  My car is registered in Florida and my driver’s license is from Florida. I am going to school in Oregon. Can I get insurance based on my Oregon address without changing my cars registration to Oregon or getting an Oregon drivers license?

You will have to give the insurance company your new mailing address and the principal address where your car will be garaged. If your insurance company does not operate in the state where you will be attending college, you may then need to get new insurance in that state with another insurance provider.

State laws and regulations differ but you normally are able to obtain insurance for your vehicle, while you live out of state as a full time student without changing your Florida registration or driver's license to Oregon issued registration or license.

If you do need to change your registration or license to Oregon issued ones, contact the OR Department of Motor Vehicles.
