Q

What is livery insurance and how do I go about obtaining it since most insurance companies don't sell it? I live in Georgia.

A

Livery insurance allows you to carry passengers for a fee. Thus, passenger cars used to give rides for hire should be registered as a livery. This can include taxis, cabs and limousines. There are specialty companies that should be able to help you get the insurance you need.

We don't current offer business insurance, only personal auto insurance polices.  You can speak to your personal car insurance provider to see if they offer business insurance for your livery service.  If they don't and you need help obtaining livery insurance then contact the Georgia Insurance Commissioner.

State insurance regulators offer consumers information on the types of insurance they may need and typically have lists of what insurance companies authorized in the state offer the various types of coverages one may need -- such as personal or business policy for motor vehicles.
