Car Insurance Question  Does comprehensive insurance cover damage to a vehicle that rolled down a hill and hit a tree? The vehicle was not discovered for about an hour. The vehicle was unoccupied, and not sure if it was left out of gear or popped out of gear. It is a manual transmission.

In most cases your physical damage coverages of collision or comprehensive (also referred to "other than collision") should cover the damages caused by an accident as you described. Insurance guidelines differ so check with your insurance provider to find out if they would find this to go under the collision or comprehensive portion of your policy.

It will likely be considered a collision claim. Collision coverage is intended to cover things that your vehicle strikes while Comprehensive coverage is intended to cover things that strike your vehicle. Comprehensive is supposed to cover un-excluded loss other than collision or overturn.
