Section 56-5-730 of the South Carolina Code of Laws requires obedience to traffic laws. It goes on to state that it is unlawful and, unless otherwise declared in this chapter with respect to particular offenses, it is a misdemeanor for any person to do any act forbidden or to fail to perform any act required in this chapter SC Code of Laws.
Points for this offense are not discussed but whether there are points or not assessed to your SC driving record, it is really the violation itself that could affect your rates. If this violation of the law is placed on your driving record once you pay the fine for it then your insurance company could see it next time they pull your MVR.
If this South Carolina traffic ticket goes on your driving record then depending upon our insurance company's rating system it could affect your rates. You would have to find out from your insurance agent about your insurance provider's rating system.
The law enforcement officer that wrote the ticket might mistakenly believe that if a violation is without points that it won't affect insurance or he could be right that the ticket will not affect insurance premiums. The only way to find out if it will affect your particular insurance premiums is to discuss the ticket with your agent.
