Car Insurance Question  I am British but buying a holiday house in Colorado. I have obtained house and auto insurance but cannot get an umbrella policy to extend the liability insurance. Are there companies who specialise in this?

An umbrella policy helps to protect your assets. With an umbrella policy you list what items you want covered (i.e. home, boat, cars, motorcycle, etc) and then those listed items are underwritten and a rate is given for the premium to cover up to $1 million in liability.

Yes, there should be an insurance company that will help you with obtain an umbrella policy in Colorado. Some companies do specialize in this and only offer umbrella policies.

Many companies will not sell you an umbrella policy unless both your auto and home insurance coverage is with them. In addition, your insurer may stipulate that your auto or homeowners liability limits be at least a certain amount, such as $200,000 to $300,000. Umbrella policies are usually sold with a deductible that runs from $250 to $1,000.

If you would like this coverage through CarInsurance.com, purchase your auto policy and then we can add the coverage. Both Safeco Insurance and The Hartford offer umbrella policies.

Safeco's Personal Umbrella policies are competitively priced and offer exceptional coverage. You can receive coverage up to $2 million. Umbrella policies are available to Safeco customers who insure their personal autos with Safeco. You can follow this link or call 1-800-936-0356 and speak with our partners at Safeco Insurance.

Safeco also offer homeowners policies which you can read about here or call the number listed above for a quote.
