If you are a driver on your mom is the policyholder on the same auto insurance policy then you receiving a speeding ticket could affect the rates of the insurance policy. How much this could raise her premiums will depend on the rating system of her insurance company. Since Georgia state laws allow for insurance companies to determine their own rates you or your mother would need to find out from the insurance agent how her provider's rating system is set up.
As for your driving record, it will depend upon how fast you were going on each speeding offense as to how they both will affect it. In Georgia the points assigned for speeding are as follows:
- 15 mph but less than 19 mph - 2 points
- 19 mph but less than 24 – 3 points
- 24 mph but less than 34 mph – 4 points
- 34 mph or more – 6 points
So for your first speeding ticket you will need to see where on the points listing it falls, as for this second one it does appear that you would receive points on your license since it was for only 11 mph over the speed limit.
The Georgia Department of Driver Services is authorized to suspend your license if its records or other evidence shows that you have accumulated 15 points within 24 months under the point system, including violations committed out of state. At the end of the period of suspension, the violation point count shall be reduced to zero points.
We were unable to find how long points or violations stay on your GA driving record so you may want to contact the Georgia DMVS to find out this information or for more information on how your speeding citations may affect your driving license and record.
