Car Insurance Question  A friend of mine recently rear ended another car while driving my car. My car was a total loss. I know my insurance will cover my loss minus the deductible, but does my friends insurance cover any of the financial loss? For example, would her insurance cover my $1000 deductible and any other costs I have incurred? She was cited in the accident report.

No, normally your friend's insurance would not cover your deductible or other costs you incur that are not covered by your collision coverage. Her insurance may cover the other vehicle she hit if the damages and/or injuries exceed your liability limits.

While liability coverages from your friend's insurance policy may extend to this accident, as secondary or excess insurance that would kick in if expenses from the party that she hit exceeded your primary liability coverage, typically collision and comprehensive coverages do not extend to another person's car. These physical damage covers stay with the vehicle they are placed on, which would be her own vehicle.

If you want your deductible and other incidentals paid for you may need to request that your friend that crashed the car to reimburse you.
